The Top Mountain Crosspoint
Hochgurgl is the highest place in the Alps and is guaranteed snow in the winter months. When there is a winter closure over the Timmelsjoch, the High Alpine Road is closed from Hochgurgl or from the toll station at the Top Mountain Crosspoint.
In the summer months, the toll road has a little surprise in store for you: the Timmelsjoch Experience. Five stations (free admission) with interesting information about history, nature, culture, economy and the people in this region around the Timmelsjoch.
A few months after the great fire accident in January 2021 destroyed the first museum area (built in 2015), the TOP Mountain Motorcycle Museum reopened on 18 November 2021 as the new Motorcycle Experience World - bigger, more spectacular, more informative and more eventful!
A new, comprehensive concept with exciting motorbike stories, historic racing machines and a varied, partly interactive programme enthuses all visitors right from the start. In addition to the rare and partly antique vintage motorbikes and oldtimers from 1885 to the present day, which can be experienced by visitors as a walk-through motor history on an exhibition area of over 4,500 m², the TOP Mountain Motorcycle Museum now offers another major highlight: the Motor Experience, a multimedia world of experience with 4D cinema, motor wall, technology simulations and, of course, lots of engine noise - here you can experience the fascination of a motorbike ride with all your senses even without a motorbike licence!
In Hochgurgl you will also find the 1st station of the Timmelsjoch Experience, the "Steg".
In addition to information about the history of settlement in the high alpine region and the stone pine forest in Obergurgl, you will also learn here how the glaciers shape this impressive landscape.
From the "Steg" you have a unique panorama over the rear Ötztal and the Hochgurgl/Obergurgl ski area, which is one of the 10 best ski destinations in the world.
An ideal place to capture your ride over the Timmelsjoch with a "selfie".
You have left Obergurgl and Hochgurgl behind you and are back on the high alpine road. Only a few hairpin bends and the 2nd station "Schmuggler" separate you from the Timmelsjoch. Here you can learn more about the world of smuggling in a walk-through cube. The 2nd station is very clearly visible from the High Alpine Road and is located where the primeval path from Zwieselstein to Moos in the Passeier Valley crosses the High Alpine Road.
Now the last serpentines before the pass summit follow and then you are at an altitude of 2,478 m.
