Motorcycle: Moto Guzzi Typ S 1942

With the founding of "Moto Guzzi stock corporation" on March 15, 1921 in Genoa, the story of one of the most traditional motorcycle companies in Europe takes its course.

The business objective was "the manufacture and sale of motorcycles and any activity related or related to the metalworking and engineering industries". The founding shareholders of the company were Emanuele Vittorio Parodi, a well-known shipowner from Genoa, his son Giorgio and his friend Carlo Guzzi, a former member of the Regia Aviazione (Royal Air Force).

The accidental death of their common friend Giovanni Ravelli, who was also a pilot and crashed on August 11, 1919 during a test flight,  led - as a reminder of him - to the inclusion of the eagle with the wings spread in the now world-famous Moto Guzzi logo.

The here presented  Moto Guzzi Type S was produced from 1934 until the 2nd World War.
Moto Guzzi offered with the model S an alternative to the sportier models V and G.T.V., especially for civil customers, but also for the "Milizia della Strada" of Italy.

In contrast to the models V and G.T.V. In the S-series counter-rotating engines were installed in a rigid frame, a construction method that was however abandoned during the Second World War.

The S-series had an air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine with a horizontal cylinder. On the left stump of the dual-bearing crankshaft is a smooth flywheel, which runs outside the housing. An attached behind the spur gear drives the basket of mounted on the transmission input shaft multi-disc oil bath clutch. The helical four-speed gearbox is to be operated with a shift lever on the right side of the tank.  A foot control with rocker switch on the right side of the engine was onn requesat available. The transmission was connected by a machine chain with a rear wheel.

Striking and style-defining for later Moto Guzzi models was the painting of the sheet steel parts in dark red with simultaneous chrome plating and partial painting of the tank - additionally provided with a gold-colored ruling and the world-famous Moto Guzzi emblem.
